Health System Highlights from 2018

As the year is coming to an end, we find ourselves reflecting on all that has happened across our health system. 2018 has been a year to remember. Here are some highlights.

  • Nexus Children’s Hospital Houston reopened our Changes Health & Wellness program, the only one of its kind for children with Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS).
  • Nexus Health Systems’ Founder, Chief Executive Officer, and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. John W. Cassidy, was named a Health Care Hero by the Houston Business Journal.
  • HealthBridge Children’s Hospital Orange announced our acute bed expansion which increased capacity from six to ten beds.
  • Nexus Neurorecovery Center recruited top talent.

  • Nexus Health Systems announced the launch of our Emerging Consciousness Program – also known as The Phoenix Project – for individuals with a disorder of consciousness post-brain injury. Since the program formed in early 2018, over 85% of patients have experienced improved wakefulness after being in a coma or vegetative state for anywhere from weeks to years.
  • Nexus Specialty Hospital implemented our Diagnostic Evaluation program, allowing us to expand our clinical services. We also expanded our imaging services to include a 64-slice CT scanner and digital x-ray system.
  • The You First Foundation donated over $63k to Nexus Children’s Hospital, enabling our facility to create a more robust activities room, construct a new sensory room, and purchase state-of-the-art equipment for our rehabilitation gym.
