Director of Rehabilitation - Full Time

Description

The Director of Rehabilitation is responsible for the oversight of therapy operations, including the management and supervision of the therapy staff, the clinical program, and assures the therapy continuum of care for those served at the facility. The Director of Rehabilitation is a clinical role requiring the provision of therapeutic intervention as needed as a Physical Therapist at any time. The Director of Rehabilitation is responsible for providing training and in-services to staff, staff communications, development of a protocol, and observance of all regulatory guidelines to assure compliance with rules and regulations and individual practice prerogatives. This position an essential staff member defined as a staff member who is required to be on duty to provide services assigned during an emergency and/or disaster situation, as defined by the facility’s emergency and disaster response plan.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of individual patients’ histories, current progress, and personal issues or difficulties.
  • Screens, evaluate, and treat patients in a timely manner as ordered by the attending physician.
  • Accepts and completes assignments without hesitation.
  • Accomplishes required tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Communicates effectively with immediate supervisor, physicians, and other health team members regarding patient progress, problems, and plans.
  • Participates in weekly patient rounds and/or treatment planning as necessary.
  • Participates in family conferences and other patient care conferences as needed.
  • Records clinical documentation according to accepted regulatory, corporate, and professional guidelines.
  • Records daily treatment and labor per company procedures.
  • Establishes and instructs program staff and/or family members in a patient-specific home exercise program.
  • Participates in discharge planning as needed.
  • Complies with state regulations and national standards as they apply to the practice of Physical Therapy.
  • Ensures fiscal management of the therapy department.
  • Ensures therapy department staff provides appropriate services as per professional licensing acts.
  • Ensures staffing appropriateness for the department.
  • Ensure treatment team decisions are followed in all aspects of the patient’s daily programming.
  • Demonstrates the ability to resolve and/or problem-solve areas of concern or conflict with patients’ families, co-workers, or external customers in a professional, proactive and courteous manner.
  • Demonstrates the ability to apply and practice physical therapy procedures.
  • Demonstrates the ability to provide staff training on patient-specific home exercise programs/protocols as requested in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates the ability to complete reports, generate schedules, and document treatments.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively with staff, physicians, other departments, and outside physicians.
  • Ensures accurate and timely completion of other administrative or program-related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Ensures annual recertification of therapy department licensing.
  • Provides supervision to subordinates in accordance with NCH’s Policies and Procedures and applicable federal and state law.
  • Demonstrates consistent and fair supervision of staff at all times.
  • Demonstrates the ability to provide ongoing training, role-modeling, development, and nurturing to staff.
  • Conducts regularly scheduled staff meetings to facilitate good communication flow and problem identification.
  • Performs employee performance evaluations in a timely manner and ensures all required paperwork is submitted to payroll in a timely manner.
  • Ensures timely and accurate completion of payroll.
  • Provides appropriate rewards and corrective action to staff.
  • Ensures staff attends all mandatory in-services.
  • Exercise good judgment when addressing staff complaints and resolving staff problems.
  • Ensures tracking and follow-up regarding employee criteria for employment at NCH, i.e., license, AHA BLS, etc.

Job Requirements

Experience

  • Preferred minimum of five years of management experience in an Inpatient Setting.
  • Knowledge of or exposure to assisting persons with neurological deficits or persons with disabilities in acute care or community re-entry program and inpatient hospital setting preferred.

Education Required

  • Minimum of Master’s Degree in Physical/Occupational or Speech Therapy from an accredited college.

Additional Information

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

  • Must be and maintain licensure as a licensed Physical/Occupational/Speech Therapist in the state of Texas
  • Must be certified in AHA BLS.
  • Maintains certifications and licenses as current to avoid voluntary resignation.
  • Must be knowledgeable of and practice Infection control and universal precautions at all times.
  • Must obtain a tuberculosis test within the first 14 days of employment and annually after that.
  • Must pass a criminal background, employee misconduct registry, and OIG/GSA sanctions annually.
