Nurse Manager - Full Time
Description
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Nursing (DON), the Nursing Manager oversees and coordinates the delivery of nursing services.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and allied health staff regarding clinical care delivery.
- Follow up and address patient complaints in a timely manner.
- Facilitate critical thinking at the bedside.
- Demonstrates knowledge of individual patients’/residents’ histories, current progress, and treatment goals
- Accepts patient assignments as directed by the Director of Patient Services
- Coordinates care with ancillary clinical departments to provide optimal patient care
- Create and lead education programs for patients, families, and staff
- Actively participates in orientation of new employees
- Provide direct patient care (either by being included in staffing count or carrying out other activities, e.g., vital signs, giving meds, IV therapy, responding to code, etc.).
- In collaboration with DPS, develop department-specific audits to address documentation and patient care issues.
- Conducts walking rounds to assess the unit environment and staff issues.
- Address physician complaints in a timely manner.
- Review resumes and sets up interviews with qualified candidates to assess candidate fit.
- Collaborate with DPS to write and deliver annual staff evaluations.
- Collaborate with DPS to train and orient new hires.
- Assesses skill levels of staff when planning and coordinating the delivery of patient care. Coach staff as they deliver patient care.
- Collaborate with DPS and the Director of Human Resources to prepare and deliver disciplinary actions.
- Ensure all staff has up-to-date competencies, certification, and registration.
- Conduct monthly staff meetings with the nursing department.
- Available on-call 24/7. Arrange for appropriate coverage when unable to be on call.
- Ensures nursing documentation meets state, federal, and accrediting agency standards.
- Review and approve payroll data.
- Review productivity data and discuss variances with DPS.
- Collect data regarding unit financial performance against the allocated budget.
- Provide input for the development of the nursing department budget.
- Assist in developing and implementing strategies to ensure productivity goals are met.
- Assist in communicating department-based productivity plans to department personnel positively and negatively.
- Collect data on department performance indicators.
- In collaboration with DPS, write action plans related to department quality improvement projects.
- Demonstrates knowledge of licensing standards and regulations as they pertain to nursing.
- Assist DPS in ensuring nursing department policies and procedures are current and are reviewed on an annual basis.
- Participate in hospital-wide committees or task forces.
- Coordinate, prepare for, and manage routine staff meetings.
- Oversee general patient admissions, internal transfers, acute care transfers, and discharges to and from the facility.
- Review schedule daily to assess census, call in extra staff, and deal with staffing emergencies in collaboration with the Staffing Coordinator.
- Ensure a safe work environment for staff.
- Ensure appropriate equipment is available and functional on the unit.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
Experience
- Minimum two years of nursing management and/or supervisory experience, preferably in LTAC or Assisted Living.
Education Required
- Must be a licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Texas.
- BSN preferred or equivalent experience.
Additional Information
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
- SAMA certified within 30 days of employment.
- Certified in AHA BLS/CPR
- Must obtain current tuberculosis test within the first fourteen (14) days of employment and annually after that.
- Maintain current certification in good standing during employment with this facility, or obtain within thirty (30) days of hire
