Physical Therapy Assistant - Full-Time

Description

Under the Registered Physical Therapist (PT) supervision, the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) treats patients according to a treatment plan approved by the attending physician and PT.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of individual residents’ histories, current progress, and personal issues or difficulties.
  • Ensures that any changes in patient condition are unusual circumstances are reported to the supervising PT, nurse, and/or the Director of Rehabilitation.
  • Practices correct isolation techniques to maintain a safe environment and to control the spread of infection.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of physical therapy equipment utilized in different procedures, i.e., electrical stimulation, ultrasound, rehab equipment, etc.
  • Utilizes resources appropriately and uses/maintains equipment in order to prolong working life.
  • Ensures that the scope of duties and services provided are consistent and within the guidelines of the Physical Therapy Assistant licensing and practice act.
  • Demonstrates the ability to apply physical therapy procedures as scheduled by supervising PT.
  • Provides age and diagnosis of appropriate therapeutic interventions.
  • Provides patient and family education on tasks and resources to assist with continued functional independence and safety.
  • Provides quality patient care to guarantee positive patient and family satisfaction.
  • Communicates with the physical therapist, physicians, and other treatment team members regarding patient progress, problems, and plans.
  • Participates as necessary in the patient care conferences, rehabilitation meetings, and other meetings as assigned.
  • Records clinical documentation according to accepted regulatory, corporate, in professional guidelines.
  • Contributes to the delivery of cost-effective care.
  • Utilizes resources appropriately and uses/maintains equipment in order to prolong working life.
  • Participates in discharge planning as requested.
  • Secures necessary durable medical equipment and adaptive equipment as needed for residents.
  • Communicates with supervisors regarding department programs, goals, objectives, problems, and successes.
  • Acts as a clinical preceptor for affiliated Physical Therapy Assistant schools.
  • Documents and charges daily therapeutic units timely and accurately.
  • Supervises Rehab Technician in direct patient care and patient-related activities.
  • Adheres to department productivity standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Experience

  • Prefer six months of experience working in a hospital/rehabilitation setting.
  • Pediatric experience preferred

Education Required

  • Graduate from an American Physical Therapy Association accredited school of Physical Therapist Assistants.

Additional Information

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

  • Current licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant in the state of Texas.
  • Must be certified in AHA BLS
  • Attend behavioral management and de-escalation techniques training as required by the facility.
  • Certification in behavior management or related (SAMA, ABA, PIP, etc.)
