Neuropsychological Evaluations to Assess Brain Function after Brain Injury, Stroke or Illness

To gain a better understanding of how our patients’ brains function after an acquired or traumatic brain injury, stroke, or illness, a variety of tests are administered by Nexus’ Neuropsychology Department. Determining what parts of the brain were affected helps lead towards a thorough diagnosis of deficits, which is crucial when it comes to creating individualized treatment plans aimed at restoring cognitive, motor, behavioral, linguistic, and executive functioning.

Neuropsychological evaluation involves assessment of:

  • General Intellect
  • Higher Level Executive Skills (sequencing, reasoning, problem solving)
  • Attention and Concentration
  • Learning and Memory
  • Language
  • Visual/Spatial Skills (perception)
  • Motor and Sensory Skills
  • Information Processing Skills
  • Mood and Personality

After an assessment, interventions are developed to target patients’ individual challenges including maintaining appropriate behavior, making decisions, and relating to others.
