Your patients hit hardest with COVID-19 have unique needs. Nearly *1/3 of survivors who have been hospitalized for months and on a ventilator have significant neurologic and/or psychiatric impairments. These individuals require pulmonary and critical care to be weaned off the ventilator and returned to consciousness — in addition to support for respiratory and circulatory system deficits and care for serious wounds.
Your hospital or long-term care facility has done so much for these patients already. Why not collaborate with a neuroscience team and neurorehabilitation program to give your patients the best chance at recovery?
The Emerging Consciousness Program at Nexus Specialty Hospital has long been successful for patients with prolonged disorders of consciousness after an acquired brain injury (ABI). Patients recovering from COVID-19 benefit from the same protocols and program features. The pulmonary and critical care team in our neurologic stepdown ICU wean individuals from the ventilator and stabilize the patient medically before medications are introduced to help improve wakefulness.

Individuals who had severe COVID-19 symptoms are often profoundly weak and debilitated. The Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit (IRU) at Nexus Specialty Hospital provides patients with a seamless transition to the next phase of recovery. Daily physical, occupational, and speech therapy helps patients return home successfully. Individuals can also transition to Nexus Neurorecovery Center for an additional layer of residential rehabilitation.
