Nexus Neurorecovery Center

Nexus Neurorecovery Center for Care After Acquired or Traumatic Brain Injury

Once your loved one or patient is stable after suffering from an acquired or traumatic brain injury, the focus must turn towards meaningful rehabilitation. Nexus Health Systems’ nationally recognized Neurorecovery Center (formerly known as Touchstone Neurorecovery Center) allows non-medically complex patients recovering from any kind of neurological diagnosis to discharge from the hospital to a home-like environment. Situated on 26 acres, our campus features six resident homes, a 24,500 square foot state-of-the-art rehab facility, and 38 different programming areas. Our primary goal of targeted post-acute rehabilitation and therapy is to help our residents return to work, school, or home and lead productive lives through holistic treatment.

Regardless of the neurological impairment your family member or patient has suffered from, the world-renowned medical team at Nexus Neurorecovery Center looks forward to being part of his or her journey as we focus on mending minds.

Physician-Led Teams Providing Individualized Care

Nexus’ multi-disciplinary medical team develops treatment plans customized to our residents’ evolving needs. Our holistic approach – including physical, medical, and vocational rehabilitation combined with cognitive, physical, speech, occupational, behavioral, and psychosocial therapies – affords our acquired and traumatic brain injury patients the opportunity to redevelop life skills necessary for a successful recovery and community re-entry. With a neuropsychiatry foundation, Nexus identifies the underlying neurological impairments and devises a plan for patients to develop compensatory strategies that lead to a more meaning life.

Building Life-Skills & Independence

Reestablishing our residents’ quality of life and independence is an important aspect of what the Nexus team does at our Neurorecovery Center. After consideration of our patients’ individual needs and goals, our treatment team takes advantage of the features our 26 acre site offers and incorporates meaningful activities into daily therapies and rehabilitation. For example, residents work on motor skills while planting and tending to flowers just like others practice mobility and balance fishing at the pond in addition to our traditional rehabilitation practices.

To help our patients reach their goal of returning to work, vocational evaluations and rehabilitation are incorporated in treatment plans.

Our Neurorecovery Center offers:

  • Greenhouse
  • Gardens
  • Gift Shop
  • Craft Center
  • Fishing Pond
  • Screen Printing Room
  • Movie Room

  • "During my time here, I was in therapy Monday through Friday, from 9-3. It was pretty much a full-time job! When I first got here, I wouldn't remember things from an hour before – nothing really seemed to grasp my attention and I wasn't able to remember a whole lot – and now it's getting better to where I can remember most of the day or a couple days ago. The therapists have been great and wonderful, and it’s been a lot of fun working with them."

  • "I was at Nexus for about two months after a skydiving accident. The nurses, therapists and everybody were just outstanding...I thank God that I was here. They really motivated me to get better and I'm still motivated to this day. I just can’t say enough about Nexus and the people that work here."

  • "In the very first meeting, there was a team we met with. It helped us realize there will be a plan, and they were here to support us and give us advice. From the end of this, I can attest that their plan worked...it worked well for us."

  • "Looking at the other residents when we were here, it seemed to me that the Nexus Neurorecovery Center looked at each of them personally, and did what they needed to do. That requires a facility to be able to understand them and have resources, not only for day-to-day caregiving, but the staff when it comes to therapy, and clinicians and all the physicians working cooperatively and coordinately together to bring about the goal of recovery."
